When you think about heating or cooling your home, you probably picture the thermostat, the furnace, or the air conditioner. But what carries all that conditioned air from room to room matters just as much. If your ductwork isn’t properly insulated, a lot of that air might never reach its destination.
Uninsulated Ducts Lose Air Before It Gets to You
When your air travels through the ducts, it needs a clear, steady path to get where it’s going. But if those ducts run through unconditioned spaces like an attic, crawlspace, or garage, and they aren’t insulated, a lot of the heated or cooled air leaks out on the way.
In winter, the warm air loses heat exchanger to the cold space around the ducts. In summer, the cool air warms up before it ever reaches the room. This makes it harder for your HVAC system to keep your space feeling the way it should.
You might set your thermostat to 70 degrees Fahrenheit, but the room feels more like 74. That’s not because your system isn’t trying.
